Beginner Training Clinics
“OH MY GODDARD!” and Crabman Triathlons
2013 Training Clinics Itinerary
2013 marks our 5th year with the popular novice clinic series. They are a lot of fun, and hundreds of triathletes and soon-to-be triathletes have made it to the starting line more confident as a result. Each clinic begins with an informal talk, questions and concerns are addressed, and each participant leaves with a hardcopy of the tips and topics covered. We then proceed to the workout of the day, practicing what we have learned. All levels of experience are welcome and included, we won’t leave you behind!
Our clinics are coached by:
Keith Ballard of Precision Performance Coaching
Bill Maine of Bill Maine Tri Coach
The NBX TEAM!

Novice Swim Clinics
The pool sessions consist of a three-part clinic focusing on gaining confidence in the water, and developing proper stroke technique. Basic stroke technique will be demonstrated, each swimmer will have his or her technique assessed, and suggestions will be made for improvement. We will also prescribe drills to help modify technique. All clinics are part-informal lecture, part-workout with a Q&A period.
1st Pool Swim Clinic
Monday, April 15th: 8-9:30pm @ URI pool
We will begin our first in a series of pool swims to get our athletes acclimated to the water with stretching exercises, basics of swimming, tricks of triathlon swimming, and drills. We will progress from this first clinic over a three-week period.
2nd Pool Swim Clinic
Monday, April 22nd: 8-9:30pm @ URI Pool
We'll continue to build on the previous clinic, refining stroke technique, and adding drills. We'll outline how to train for the swim, and provide workout suggestions. We'll include a Q&A period to help athletes through the training process.
3rd and Final Pool Clinic
Monday, April 29th: 8-9:30pm @ URI Pool
We will finish the final pool clinic by continuing to build on the previous two clinics and offering a final question and answer period following the swim session. By the end of this third week you will feel more confident in the water, have a basic understanding of proper freestyle stroke technique, and how to train for the triathlon swim.
Moving Outside!
The outside training clinic will be a similar format to the pool swims. First we will discuss proper technique and offer tips in the discipline(s) covered that week, then practice what we have learned on the Goddard course. Sessions are designed to build in a progressive fashion so that by race day we have covered every aspect of triathlon at least once. Sessions will last approximately 1:15 and will take place rain or shine! In the event of bad weather, we'll move the clinic indoors.
